Someone finally did it: a Japanese playthrough of the original game synched to the English-language version, so the game's English subtitles go with the Japanese voices.

Of course in some places the translation is inaccurate (the biggest one being Yuna's "I love you" in the English and "arigato" in the Japanese), but at least now it's possible to watch the story with the original voices.

Here's the aftermath of Operation Mi'ihen, with the usual suspects plus Kinoc, Seymour, and the Chocobo Knights.

Lucil's voice = hawt. And Elma reminds me of Utena! Poor Elma; I want to strangle her American VA every play-through.

Omg Yay! I had to totally watch #26 which is my favorite scene. I missed hearing Seymour's Japanese voice. So creepy ^^.

Lulu sounds a lot younger than I imagined. Wakka and Auron sound like 70 year olds.

I know. I actually like Auron, Wakka, Luzzu, Belgemine and Maechen better in the English dub. Lulu... I'm torn, because this sounds a little more natural, less overacting. But I think I like the dripping scorn in the English dub better.

Gatta, Clasko, Elma, and Lucil are much improved though, and Seymour is sooooo much more convincing. It's a lot easier to see why Yuna was somewhat taken in.

Agreed on your "better in English" choices. Also Isaaru, and Rikku -- her Japanese voice actor always sounds like a hyper-active pre-teen to me, even when Rikku *isn't* behaving like one.

Japanese Belgamine sounds so angry and superior. Not at all like the gentle mentor vibe her English VA gives off.

Also agreed that this Seymour is way more convincing. The English VA practically oozes insincerity.
